ARK is a Norwegian Progressive Metal band with a unique style. “Burn the Sun” is their masterpiece and the finest in its genre … Describing the album won’t be enough: everyone should have it.
The band resulted from the friendship and musical collaboration
of guitarist Tore Østby (Conception) and drummer John Macaluso (ex-TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen), who later joined up with singer Jørn Lande (Jorn, ex-Masterplan) to record two acclaimed albums. (From www.last.fm)
I usually put metal music in two main genres: “American metal ” and “European Metal”
Ark for me is the European Dream Theatre, still has more to offer especially as Bass Guitar (personal opinion). The bass lines are clear in all tracks and the bass itself the main instrument in some songs.
Guitar techniques are virtuoso but more into classic and with rare chromatic passages.
Heal the Waters is the album’s first track and one of its best.
Lyrics are about humanity and the wars we have been through.
There is a very unique twist at the end of the track … drums stop and you will hear a coin turning on a table increasing speed till the drums enter back with the voc. Very original.
Another of the Album’s best is “Missing you” which is a really romantic track.
With a beautiful guitar intro and lots of feelings, the music builds up aggression, starting soft ending hard!
